A Little Fruity, A Little Loopy

I have finished my little fruity table runner! Yay, first major project down.

BUT…. it was my very first free motion quilting project, and – of course – it did not come out perfect. The number one issue for quilters new to fmq is “tension” and “speed”.

I mean, I’ve always been told I’m a little loopy.

Now, I have evidence.

TENSION

Yes, tension can be an issue. Check the tension by stitching a normal straight line. Loops on top? Decrease the tension number. Loops on bottom? Increase the tension number.

SPEED

So, apparently the trick to fmq is going faster with your foot pedal, and going more slowly with your hands, especially if you are doing curvy pattern bits. I’m getting loops on the bottom >>>>> I need to slow down my hands, go thoughtfully and carefully around curves.
